For Lori

A comparison of sorts. This is a normal eye:

This is my other eye, today:

To see my previously unhealthy eye of two years ago, see below.

Vote on whether the (benign) eye tumor is back or not! A fun interactive blog post! Ha, I really hope only Lori and possibly Dayna read this - but even if you are a stranger, feel free to vote.

Love,

Your long lost blogging friend and sister Emily

Christmas music and I have an eye growth!

I have officially started my Christmas music listening. I have created the PERFECT pandora station and have been only listening to it for the past 3 days, mid-October isn't too early? is it?

Also in new news, my eye has a weird swollen growth. I'm probably going blind. Just cause I'm gross I'll include a picture.

I went to the BYU urgent care and got it checked out on monday, my Dr. prescribed me some eyedrops and set up a follow up for today. I went to today and it still looked mostly the same, so he has referred me to an eye doctor who I have an appt. with tomorrow. I know that you already know this Lori and Dayna, my faithful readers haha, so I don't know why I'm documenting it. Mostly I wrote this because I'm just getting SOOO excited for Christmas and I wanted a break from studying.

BYU so far ...

I have now been at BYU for almost a month. I live in some really nice BYU owned apartments which I like a lot. My roommate's name is Paige and she is really nice. I am taking Historical Geology and Freshman English. Geology is really hard - my mind does not process science very easily, lol. I've gotten 100% on all the quizzes - but the midterm is on Friday and I get our first paper back soon, so we will see :) English is alright, we are reading a really interesting novel about the cultural revolution, and writing papers about democracy and stuff. It's neat! I got an 89 on my first paper, which I was happy about - but we will see how that midterm goes. I have some friends, they are nice. The ward is nice. Everything is nice - I miss home a lot and am super excited for the end of the term and to go home for two weeks. I also am really excited for Fall semester when Natalie and Cassey and other people I know will be down here!

update

I never write in this blog so I'm sorry if anyone is still reading it :). But I thought I would let all the people that are reading this what my plans are for the next little bit. I just graduated on May 20th from Weber High. On June 3rd I have training for an internship I'm doing at the Springville Museum of Art. I am super excited about this! I will be working in the education department at one of Utah's best museums - I am so stoked! YAY. On June 13th I leave for Vegas with some of my girlfriends and will be gone till the 19th. I'm really excited for this also! I get back from Vegas the morning of June 19th and New Student Orientation and move in day is June 20th so I will be back and then move the next day! I'm doing summer term at BYU and taking Geology and a first year English class. My last final is August 14th and move out day is August 16th, then I'll be home for a week or two and move back to Provo between August 27th and Labor day. So these are my summer plans I am really, really excited- it should be a blast!

Goals, shmoals

So the last couple months have been pretty sedentary ones - I haven't had a gym class and have been quite lazy! My friend Alisa at Treehouse was telling me about this running plan which is for people who are really inactive and gets them to be able to jog 3 miles in 8 weeks. Because I want to be able to be in better shape for healthy reasons and because I will be starting school in two months and want to be able to walk around campus w/o running out of breath, I have decided to give this a try. Now, in my past I have been known to start something, do it for a week or two, and then quit. This is especially true with diet & exercise. Therefore, I am putting this out to the people that read my blog (So pretty much you Lori :) ), and making myself be accountable. My plan is to go to bed before 10:00 pm so I can wake up at 5:30 and go to the gym Monday, Wednesday, and Friday every week for the next two months! Hopefully after that I will be in the habit and will want to wake up and run 3 miles ( because by that time in the plan I should be able to, lol) 3 times a week. So yay goals!

Zhang Qikai & Wayne Thibeaud & Victorian Art

Art Knowledge News Article

O.K. so my favorite source of art news has once again introduced me to something super cool - the Chinese artist Zhang Qikai. I love his stuff! He reminds me a lot of Magritte, and surrealism in general. I love the fantasy aspect of his work! He uses the Panda in a lot of his work, which the article I linked to above goes into more detail about. I like Asian art, but I usually like European or American art much better - I think because I understand the historical and cultural context a lot more, but this artists I LOVE! And I think he is one of the first Asian artists I have really been excited about knowing, I will definitely keep my eye out for more news on him. I love fantasy paintings - I love Chagall and Magritte surrealism, and French Roccoco artists with their big broccoli trees and marshmallow clouds, and now I will add Qikai to this list, yay!

Another artist I heard about today ( in the Standard Examiner, no less!) is Wayne Thiebaud, who has an exhibit at the Springville Art Museum. He is a pretty famous artist of the Pop Art style. His stuff is also fun, but in a more realistic way. He does paintings of food and other common day things. He also lived in Utah for a year or two. Some pretty big museums (like the MOMA) have his works in their permanent collections! Hopefully I get a chance to see his Springville exhibit, all his work I have seen so far has been really good! It reminds me of Warhol's Soup Cans, and Oldenburg sculptures - which are always so fun to learn about.

Also, on Monday me and Lori are going down to the BYU Museum of Art to see their Victorian Art exhibit - and I'm pretty dang excited!!! I love the fairytale, shakespearean, beautiful style of the pre-raphaelites. MMM, I can't wait. A blog about that is sure to be in the future :).
